I’m a huge fan of marketing guru and serial entrepreneur Seth Godin. You could even say that I’m an avid member of his Tribe. American Way magazine described Godin as “America’s greatest marketer” and he has one of the most successful blogs around. I read it religiously.
On a credibility scale of one to ten, he’s a ten.
So why should am I telling you this and why should you even care?
Because, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know I preach the gospel of “conscious choice.”
Huge choices and the resulting changes they reap are great, but for most of us the opportunity for life-altering change comes around infrequently and big changes are sometimes difficult to maintain. What works more often is making small, but meaningful choices each and every day about how we spend our time, our effort and our money. These choices accumulate over time and create sustainable change in our lives.
That’s how you build success–in life and in business. There’s really is no magic involved…
So you can imagine how pleased I was to see that Godin made this exact point in his blog today, using Mark Zuckerberg as an example. Godin wrote: ”This notion that there’s one in a billion alignment of DNA and experience that magically creates an exception is just total nonsense. Mark is successful because of a million small choices, not because he, and he alone, has some magical properties.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Making choices mean taking action. Success, whatever your definition, comes from the result of action.
Of course, you need to do your homework and make more good choices than bad. But if you make a mistake, just pick yourself up and choose something else.
You’ll be one choice closer to success.
